Deputy in Squad CarThe Reserve section was created in 1965 through the vision of former Shelby County Sheriff William N. Morris, Jr. Since then, hundreds of citizens have been part of the Reserve Deputy Program.

The Sheriff’s Office has a section of fully trained Reserve Deputies. Reserves serve on all shifts depending on their availability. Reserve Deputies go through training comparable to full-time officers. They must meet rigorous classroom, firearm and physical agility standards in a basic recruit academy then maintain their training by completing at least 40 hours per year.

Deputies are stationed in law enforcement functions throughout the Sheriff’s Office and work side-by-side with some of the best professionals in the field.
